I created this Granny Square vest sample while healing from a broken ankle in late 2022. I taught a class on how to make this at Sew Expo, and now it’s time to share it! I had so much fun teaching 4 classes in 3 days at Sew Expo, and I’m excited to finally share this pattern I’ve been working on.
I love crochet and having been crocheting since I was about 13 years old. I learned from the book my mom learned from in the 1970s! Granny squares are a classic and frequently used crochet design. With beginner crochet knowledge, you can easily create these squares and then build them into this fun retro granny square vest!
Worked from the center outward with just a few simple crochet stitches, granny squares can be worked in a variety of colors to create different motifs. Size and yarn can be customized to the individual. I made mine with cotton yarn, which has a nice feel but is significantly heavier than a wool of the same gauge. Something to keep in mind~
